An online campaign to get four more giant cats built in Catford has closed after a paw response - with just seven people backing the plan.

In what may be one of the least popular petitions of all time, locals wanted Lewisham Council to build a quartet of pals for the shopping centre's famous cat, arguing it would boost morale in hard times.

The petition read: "In these times of austerity, it is more important than ever for local authorities to spend sensibly from the public purse.

"These cats will increase the quality of life for locals, as well as attracting lucrative investment from the private sector."

But feline enthusiast Felix Kyler was one of the only people to respond, writing: "Cats are amazing. So agile. More people need to learn to meow!"

The petition has now closed.
