Greenwich and Lewisham have lower rates of confidence in the police than most other London boroughs.

In data contained in two new online tools released by Met Police chiefs, residents can now track the level of confidence felt towards the police in their local area.

Sixty-seven per cent of residents in the borough of Greenwich report having confidence in the police, while only 57 per cent of those in neighbouring Lewisham borough share that view.

The confidence dashboard and neighbourhood confidence comparator, launched by deputy mayor for policing and crime Stephen Greenhalgh, also allow the public to compare their area to others in London.

While 74 per cent those living around Greenwich town centre report confidence in officers, this falls to 55 per cent in Eltham and only 52 per cent in the southern part of Lewisham borough.

Mr Greenhalgh said: "Right now in Greenwich, confidence in the police is not as high as we would like, although some parts of the borough have higher confidence scores.

"We hope these tools will be used by local police leaders to make fair comparisons between similar neighbourhoods in order to learn from areas of London with higher levels of confidence."

The new tools can both be accessed here.
