An Orpington disability campaigner was left 'angry' after MP Bob Neil supposedly refused to meet her at a lobby.

Paula Peters, 43, was left dismayed after the Bromley and Chislehurst MP was unable to meet her and others at parliament.

Mrs Peters, chairman of the Bromley branch of the Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC) and part of a national steering group, met fellow activists and people living with disabilities to protest over the abolition of the ILF (Independent Living Fund).

Due to be removed on June 30, Mrs Roberts emailed Mr Neil some three weeks prior to Christmas about the event taking place on January 6.

The ILF provides extra funds to paid to 'severely disabled people' up to £475 a week, according to Bromley Council.

She claims that only the day before did she receive a message from his PA saying he was unable to meet them.

MP Bob Neill

Mrs Peters, from Poverest Road, said: "To be honest I'm angry. I emailed him because he's my MP and I wanted him to meet with us about the ILF.

"I've emailed him before [the event] to tell him it was coming up in the hope he would meet with us personally to give him some information but he refused to meet with me.

"If he's not going to meet with people and their families it's a poor show. He works for us.

"We have ILF recipients in Bromley."

Mrs Peters, who suffers from rheumatoid arthritis and bi-polar, added: "For many people they're facing a stark choice of being stuck at home, a prisoner, unable to work unable to visit friends or family and unable to take part in society.

"It's so dire it's awful."

A spokesman for the office of Bob Neil said: "He wasn't in a position to commit until he knew what the parliamentary business was that week.

"She has been in touch in the past and he has met her one on one. It wasn't the case he didn't want to meet her."
