The secretary of UKIP in Dartford has been branded “pathetic” for penning a bizarre letter to the neighbours of a man who insulted him.

Party activist Simon Blanchard posted the two-page rant to Brian Kemp and several other residents of Ethelbert Road in Hawley.

Semi-retired history and sociology teacher Mr Kemp, 58, admits calling Mr Blanchard a “racist”, a “xenophobe” and a “fascist” after the Dartford UKIP secretary posted a leaflet through his door on January 6.

He says Mr Blanchard briefly remonstrated with him as he returned the literature before continuing on his way.

The father-of-two thought nothing more of the incident until a letter from Mr Blanchard addressed to his wife Debbie Kemp, 53, came through the door on Friday.

In the letter, which was actually penned to Mr Kemp, Mr Blanchard complained about the “verbal insult” made to him and said he “felt the need to pass a copy of this letter to every immediate neighbour of yours for their own information and protection.”

The missive then makes 14 points comparing the EU to a “Gym” to which a “distant Uncle” has signed up his nephew, i.e the UK, without his consent.

The two page letter by Mr Blanchard

It continues: “Despite this glaringly unsatisfactory state of affairs, the ‘sovereign householder’ now has a neighbour call him a ‘racist, xenophobe and fascist’ for having the audacity to complain against the ‘Gym’ and his ‘uncle’ for wanting this contract stopped.”

Mr Kemp said: “Mr Blanchard came round on Tuesday and I sent him away with his tail between his legs.

“I think this is a rather feeble and pathetic attempt at intimidation by a rather feeble and pathetic individual who happens to represent a rather seedy and unpleasant party.

“Three of my neighbours came round about the letter and they’ve either burned it or shredded it.

“One of them, who is an elderly gentleman in his 80s, said ‘didn’t I spend five years in the war fighting this?’

“I’m not a member of any political party, I just don’t like people who use scapegoats in order to acquire votes.

“It’s a party led by a snake oil salesman who can’t actually keep control of his membership really.”

Mr Blanchard was approached by News Shopper but declined to comment.
