A Lewisham student is jetting off to America to complete a basketball scholarship.

Joseph Kehinde, of Christ the King Sixth Form College in Lewisham, is due to start studying at Mount Mercy University in January, working towards a Maths degree.

He was offered a scholarship due to his good sporting ability and his excellent academic track record.

As a student-athlete in America, Joseph will have the chance to train and compete full-time whilst he completes his degree.

He said: "This is an amazing opportunity to earn my degree whilst taking my game to the next level.

Joseph attended the 2014 InTuition Scholarship Sports Showcase in Florida last July, where he met up with coaches from different universities and received a lot of different scholarship offers.

The InTuition Sports Showcase takes place each July on American College Campus, giving students a taste of university life in America whilst also giving them the opportunity to play live in front of US college coaches to give them the exposure they need to earn an athletic scholarship.

Joseph said: "I chose Mount Mercy University after discussing the university with the coach.

"He coached me several times at the showcase and I felt it was a good fit in terms of both my basketball and education.

"They made me a scholarship offer that covered over 50% of my tuition fees and living cost. I have accepted the offer and I'm now ready to get started Joseph will go straight into the basketball team as the American college season continues after the Christmas break."

As well as basketball, InTuition also assists athletes from other sports and scholarship opportunities are currently available for football, basketball tennis and golf.

Applications are being considered for the 2015 Sports Showcase and interested players should register their interest online at www.Student-Scholarships.com
