A sozzled-like swan caused mayhem in Crayford yesterday morning (Jan 6) prompting police to intervene.

The two Met officers rushed to where the animal was disrupting traffic near the Jolly Farmers Pub in Thames Road at around 9.30am.

The police called on nearby animal charity Artisan Rare Breeds to capture the bird.

The swan was checked over by a vet and later released.

A Met spokesman said: “We were called to Thames Road, Crayford, near the Jolly Farmers public house to assist with the removal of a swan that was disrupting traffic in the area.”

“A happy ending as the rescued mute swan has been assessed by a vet, and has now been released.”

The mute swan species has a long S-shaped neck, and an orange bill with black at the base of it.
