A 64-year-old man was attacked on Orpington High Street, yesterday afternoon.
Police and the London Ambulance Service were called at 2.13pm to reports of a serious assault.
A man is alleged to have hit the victim several times with a weapon, believed to have been a metal bar or baseball bat.
The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle.
An ambulance crew took the victim to the Princess Royal University Hospital in Farnborough. He has since been discharged.
Detectives from Bromley police are investigating the incident.
No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.
