An Orpington man was arrested after a suspected hit-and-run incident on Christmas Day which saw three people hospitalised.

Police were called to the scene of a serious crash in Maidstone, just after 10pm.

A silver Vauxhall Astra and a silver Peugeot 208, travelling in opposite directions, crashed into each other.

The three people in the Peugeot, a man and two women, were all taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The roof of the car had to be cut away by the fire brigade, who used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the trapped occupants.

The 21-year-old suspect was arrested at 3pm on Boxing Day on suspicion of dangerous driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision.

He has been bailed until December 31.
