Hundreds of presents have collected by the police for needy children.

After launching their 'Give a Gift' Christmas tree appeal, Bromley police have now collected 350 toys.

Tags were put on a Christmas tree outside Bromley Police station on November 3, and residents were able to donate by collecting a tagged ribbon on the tree.

They were asked to purchase a new toy for a child who may receive little or nothing otherwise this Christmas.

In partnership with the local Salvation Army, the toys have now been passed on to their ‘Give a gift and light up a life at Christmas’ appeal.

The Salvation Army will now make sure all the gifts are delivered in time for the children to open on Christmas morning.

Bromley Police’s Borough Commander, Chief Superintendent Chris Hafford said: "It’s fantastic that we have been able to support the Salvation Army’s ‘Give a gift and light up a life at Christmas’ appeal to this extent.

"I’ve been absolutely delighted by the response from the people and businesses of Bromley, along with the officers and staff at the police station, to this worthwhile cause.

"The Salvation Army will now make sure that these are delivered in time for Christmas morning. I would like to thank you all for your tremendous generosity; there will be a lot of very happy children on the borough this Christmas."

The Christmas tree was sponsored by JH Property Services, Guildmore and F A Albin and Sons.
