Students and staff at Charles Darwin School got into the Christmas spirit by sporting festive jumpers for charity.

Pupils and teachers at the Biggin Hill school wore their favourite seasonal sweaters with pride in exchange for a £1 donation to each year group’s chosen cause.

Deputy headteacher Louise Rees: “Staff and sixth form students have taken part in Christmas Jumper day in previous years but for 2014 we extended it to all year groups. “The atmosphere around school was fantastic.

“We often think about those less fortunate than ourselves at Christmas and this proved to be a very enjoyable way to support good causes.”

All the donations have now been collected and counted and in all £1,350 was raised which will be shared between the year group charities: Starlight, Motor Neurone Disease Association, Foal Farm, Help for Heroes, the Teenage Cancer Trust and Malachi's Only Wish.

A special mention was given to Year 10 pupils who raised a whopping £405 for Help for Heroes.

Meanwhile, Christine Horgan raised £50 from the sale of homemade cupcakes, decorated with festive jumpers.
