A video of a Bexleyheath school performing a hit from the film Frozen has been viewed more than 10,000 times in less than a day.

Staff and pupils from Bexleyheath Academy in Woolwich Road donned a range of weird and wonderful costumes for the song, Let it Go, from Disney’s popular animation.

The stunning film includes an aerial shot of the school playground captured by former student James Sims, 19, as well as many festive flourishes of technical wizardry.

Head of media and film Lucy Silvester appears in a glittering blue princess-style dress and is seen launching into song as she walks down the school corridor.

Pupils and staff appear in Rudolph red noses, Santa hats and at one point, a line of people magically transform into snowmen.

Headteacher Carl Wakefield said: “The pupils were astonished when we showed them the final film and we’ve had such a great response with lots of phone calls about it.

“We wanted to show the vibrancy and energy and the festive spirit.

“We just put it on Vimeo last night and it’s already had 10,000 views.”

Mr Wakefield, who also has a cameo in the film, revealed to News Shopper the video was his idea.

He said: “We’re part of the Academies Enterprise Trust, there are 77 schools, and I suggested each school try something to bring people together and show the Christmas spirit.

“This year the trust agreed and this was our entry.

“The two leads on it were our head of media and film Lucy Silvester and James Sims, a former pupil who is now head of marketing.

“He created the visual effects and used a drone to get a stunning aerial scene of the school playground.

There were about 300 pupils who took part originally across years 7 to 13 and then around 100 pupils appeared in the final edit.

“It took three weeks to make.

“It’s what we were looking for at the end of a tough year. I’m really proud of everyone who was involved in it, they were fabulous.”
