Two men were arrested in Belvedere after a knuckleduster were discovered in their car.
Police became suspicious after seeing the pair in a property’s driveway in Woolwich Road on Monday evening (Dec 15).
The men ran away but the police caught up with them and searched their car.
Officers found a knuckleduster and other tools believed to be used to commit theft.
Both men were arrested for going equipped with intent to steal and for being in possession of an offensive weapon.
They were bailed to return to a south London police station pending further enquiries.
Local ward officer PC Chris Molnar says "Bexley is one of the safest boroughs in London and the chance of becoming a victim is low.
“However dark winter evenings and empty homes can be too tempting for criminals.”
PC Molnar tips on keeping safe during Christmas
- Do not put presents in a room where they are visible from outside
- Do not leave the packaging outside because this highlights what you have in your house
- Check you have closed and locked all doors and windows before leaving
- If you have a UPVC door, ensure you have lifted up the handle and locked it with a key
- Leave some lights on
- Make sure all valuables are out of sight
- Install low wattage outside lighting of the 'dusk until dawn' variety
- Remember to set your burglar alarm
- Use ‘Beware of the dog’ posters
