Sidcup school pupils have celebrated the success of their very own super hero - a paralysed father who cycled 500-miles using just his arms.

Fantastic fund raiser, Rob Groves, first visited Days Lane Primary School in November before embarking on a 500-mile hand cycle ride from Scotland to London.

Mr Groves, who lost the use of his legs following an accident eight year ago, inspired pupils so much that they took it upon themselves to follow his journey.

Deputy headteacher, Ray Lang said: "Rob's first assembly was so inspiring and the children were so caught up in it that the school council led assemblies on his journey."

The journey raised more than £1,500 for Aspire - a charity supporting people wit a spinal injury - and Children in Need.

And Mr Groves collected seven bears from Edinburgh, Newcastle, Leeds, Manchester, Birmingham, Oxford and London along the way.

He organised a competition for 80 schools across the country to name each of the bears after their home cities.

Days Lane won two bears in the competition.

A reception pupil named London's bear Boris after Mayor of London, Boris Johnson.

And a year six pupil won a second bear after putting forward the name, Bear-mingham.

Mr Groves visited the school on December 5 along with Pudsey to present the prizes.

Mr Lang added: "I would like to thank Rob on behalf of the school.

"The children have been so inspired and awe-struck by his journey.

"The theme for Children in Need this year was super heroes and we have our very own super hero in Rob."
