A 58-year-old man has been charged with murder after a body was found in Deptford.

Police were called to Deptford Wharf yesterday at 3am following reports of someone trying to put a body in the Thames.

Officers later discovered the body of young father Shaun McSweeney inside a car in Evelyn Street.

Paramedics attended and the 24-year-old, who had suffered head injuries, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Colin McSweeney, 58, of Parry Road, Thornton Heath, was last night, November 21, charged with the murder.

He is due to appear at Bromley Magistrates' Court today.

Shaun's friends have taken to Facebook to pay tribute to the 24-year-old.

Daniel Marsh wrote: "Still can't believe it, only a few weeks back you were telling me you were going to grow up, knuckle down and start growing your family RIP Shaun Mcsweeny top lad! X"
