A woman, who died after a car struck her in Orpington yesterday morning, has been named by her family.

Olive Stevens, aged 88, was hit by a reversing silver Nissan Micra, on Skeet Hill Lane at around 8.30am.

It is believed that she had been driving along the lane and had to stop her car due to a lorry blocking the road clearing fly-tipped refuse.

A passenger from a second vehicle reportedly offered to assist her in reversing her Micra back down the lane.

The reversing car collided with the elderly woman causing serious injuries.

Officers and the London Ambulance Service attended. Ambulance crews took her to a south London hospital where she later died.

Her next of kin have been informed.

A 55-year-old Croydon man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving.

He has been bailed to a date in mid February next year pending further inquiries.

A spokesman for the The London Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 8.03am yesterday to Skeet Hill Lane to reports of a toad traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian.

"We sent two ambulance crews and a duty officer to the scene.

"Staff treated one patient for a head injury and she was taken to King’s College Hospital."

Temporary road closures were in place at the scene yesterday, but have been removed.

The Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Catford is leading the enquiry. Anyone with information should contact police on 02082845944.
