Each week I will use this space to share my five thoughts of the week – the good, the bad and the ugly.

But I’m not selfish, so I’m also very happy to donate the space to guest writers to have their say. Write to me using the details below.

1. Tesco has had this coming for years. For far too long it has got away with acting like the biggest bully in the playground. It bought up land everywhere and then used it to hold everyone else to ransom. And when you hear about the treatment suppliers say they receive, it beggars belief. Maybe it’s karma or maybe it’s just a case of a company getting too big for its boots. But it was bound to happen.

2. What age are you when you stop counting the quarters and the halves? You don’t hear someone say “I’m 23-and-a-half”. But when you get to the other end of the scale, it kicks in again. This week I was told by a lovely old dear that she was 94-and-a-half. These people also love to say “I’ll be xx next birthday” I wonder what makes them start telling you what age they will be next rather than what they are?

3. It doesn’t really matter to me, but the way e-cigarettes are taking over the world there’s a battle coming about where they can be “smoked”. Do you think it’s OK to have them in the office at work?

4. I was in Glasgow this week and whether you love Halloween or not, you can’t deny that the Glaswegians do it bloody well. I almost wish I’d taken my own ebola suit or a pair of Wonder Woman pants.

5. And finally, just for the record. Ceara, whatever you think, or anyone else says, I think you’re a good driver.
