The borough of Bromley is supposedly the happiest place to live in outer London.

Bromley is thought to boast the most contented people anywhere in London - with only Kensington and Chelsea narrowly ahead of it.

Out of 32 London boroughs, Bromley is rated second happiest according to The Information Capital, a new book published this week collating data from across the city.

The News Shopper took to the streets to find out what makes Bromley so brilliant.

Pensioner Helen Augousti, 73, from Lovelace Drive in Petts Wood, said: "We've got enough restaurants and shops where we don't have to travel far for. It's a nice community spirit, so I'm not surprised we've been ranked one of the happiest. We've got good facilities here and I think that's very important."

Sales executive and father of two, Paul Holloway, said: "Our kids love the schools, we've got plenty of choice and there's plenty to do for the kids. It's good got transport links, that's one of the reasons why we chose to live here and we're really close to the motorway."

The 51 year old from Crest View Drive in Petts Wood added: "We've got good shopping areas and lots of parks for the kids to play in."

Student Leah Berry, 14, from Blackbrook Lane in Bickley, said: "There's great transport here, and lots of places and parks where we can go dog walking. I like that there are loads of small cafes, really cute ones, and a good selection of restaurants.

"It is a massive borough, and we've got places like Keston which is like being in the countryside and then Crystal Palace which is really built up."

Sam Bawden, a 25 year old underwriter from Station Square, Petts Wood, said: "It's really handy living near the station we've got great transport links. There's a real community vibe, I live opposite a pub but there's never any trouble. It's a bit like a village, it seems out of place as it's so quiet and so local."

Leader of the Council, Cllr Stephen Carr, enthused over the rating, saying he was not surprised Bromley had topped the polls.

He said: "We're one of the best places to live in the country not just London. Our openness, cleanliness, safety and the quality of our schools all contribute towards making Bromley a good place to live.

"We believe what makes Bromley more unique than others is we're clean and green and constantly improving. We're the masters of our own destiny."

Statistics were taken from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) ranking satisfaction, purpose, happiness and anxiety from one to 10.
