Families could be setting up home in a Ladywell pop-up village as early as next autumn, Lewisham Council has said.

As News Shopper revealed last week, the council plans to put 24 factory-made, temporary homes on the site of the old Ladywell leisure centre.

Last night (October 22), a mayor and cabinet meeting agreed to go ahead with the plan, which could see the village in place for up to four years while proposals are drawn up for the site's long-term use.

A tendering process will begin, with a contract due to be awarded early next year and new homes by the autumn.

The Lewisham Green Party has called it "a practical short term solution to an untenable long term problem" and called for more council housing in the borough.
