A 69-year-old woman was knocked unconscious in Bellingham Green Park yesterday after a robbery which left her with a fractured jaw. The victim was making her way home from a cleaning job on the Strand on the N7 bus.

She remembers getting off the bus at Randlesdown Road at approximately 5am to walk through the park.

The next thing she recalls is coming to after being unconscious for some time, at the exit of the park.

She found that a number of items had been stolen from her jacket and that she had sustained facial injuries including a fractured jaw.

She made her way to a neighbours house who called an ambulance and the police and was taken to hospital where she remains in a stable condition.

Detective Sergeant Iain Graves, investigating officer, said: "When the victim was at the exit of Bellingham Green Park she cannot remember what happened, waking up to find injuries resembling those of someone who had been assaulted.

"Her phone, house keys, cards and travel documents were missing. We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at this time who is able to shed any light on this, or saw something that might help us piece together what happened."

Detectives from Lewisham are investigating and treating the incident as a robbery.
