A Mottingham house has been boarded up after residents suffered abuse, threats and intimidation from moped-riding youths.

Bexley Magistrates’ Court granted a closure order for 11 Horley Road after the local community complained about extreme anti-social behaviour at the property.

Residents suffered abuse, threats and intimidation from youths on mopeds, who arrived at the house at all hours, revved their engines and dropped litter.

Mottingham and Chislehurst North Safer Neighbourhoods Team, Bromley Council and Affinity Sutton housing association sought the court order after receiving the complaints.

The closure order under Section 11B of the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003 means no-one is allowed into the house for three months.

Residents, who were living at the house, moved out following the closure order.

Bromley police borough commander Chief Superintendent Chris Hafford said the property had been at the heart of serious anti-social behaviour in the Horley Road area for many months.

He said: “The police, council, housing association worked with the local community to obtain a closure order on the address.

“This has already resulted in a dramatic fall in the number of calls regarding anti-social behaviour in the area.

“This sends a clear message that acts of persistent and serious anti-social behaviour will be dealt with swiftly and very decisively using all legislation available to us."

Bromley’s executive member for public protection and safety Councillor Tim Stevens said: “We want people who commit such acts in Bromley borough to be in no doubt that the council and the police will continue to stamp out serious antisocial behaviour.

“We believe that residents should not have to put up with the misery of bad behaviour by others in their neighbourhood."
