Penguins will waddle to life and lead shoppers to a charity grotto in a UK-first at Broadway shopping centre, Bexleyheath, this Christmas.
As part of an augmented reality project, virtual flightless birds will emerge from ice holes in the floor via shoppers’ smart phones and tablets after they have downloaded a specially designed app.
The captivating creatures will then lead young shoppers and their families to Santa’s grotto, which raises funds for the Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice.
Kieran Sawyer, lead augmented reality designer for Harmony, who has been working on the project since the start, said: "We are the leading UK studio for high-end augmented reality solutions for companies and we do not know of anyone ever having used it to lead shoppers to a Christmas grotto so it is a UK-first in that respect."
Peter Sedge, Broadway Centre Manager, added: "It will be a true Happy Feet welcome at Broadway Shopping Centre this Christmas."
