You'll soon have to spend 20 pennies if you want a pee in Greenwich Park, it has been announced.

Managers The Royal Parks say operating 27 toilet blocks across all its sites is costing it £1.5m a year and this is no longer affordable.

So, from February and March next year, a 20p charge will be introduced at the toilets in Lower Avenue and the Rockery by Blackheath Gate.

There will be no charging at the playground toilets, while facilities will remain unchanged at the Pavilion Cafe and Cow and Coffee Bean

A spokesman said: "We would prefer to keep the toilets open and free of charge but unfortunately this is not possible. Government funding for The Royal Parks has been reduced by more than a third in real terms since 2010/11, so we must think very carefully about how we spend our limited resources.

"We think the 20p charge is a relatively modest compromise and compares well with other toilet facilities in London."
