Lewisham born Olympic athlete James Ellington shared his sprinting secrets with budding runners at the Highway 10K run in Orpington on Sunday.

The Team GB 200m runner and European 4x100 relay gold medallist demonstrated his technique to runners at the Highway Primary School.

Over 250 entrants turned up to battle it out in the main race, with all entry fees donated to the school.

Organisers hoped to raise enough money to buy a new sports kit for the school’s 220 pupils.

Mr Ellington, 29, also officially started the 2km family fun run.

Race spectators enjoyed a bouncy castle, refreshments, massages and a reptile display.

Organiser and parent, Louise Callow, said she hoped the race would continue to grow year on year.

She said: "We never expected it to take off in the way that it has. I'm so proud of what we've achieved. It's a really popular race."
