A brave pair of Bexleyheath sisters have claimed top prizes in an international hip-hop competition just eight months after losing their beloved dad to cancer.

Kier Walsh, aged 13, and sister Sienna, aged seven, of Haselmere Road travelled to Dortmund in Germany with mum, Laura, to take part in the International Dance Organization Hip Hop, Electric Boogie and Break Dance World Championships.

The sisters lost their dad, Anthony, aged 42, in February and have used dance as a way to help them through their grief.

Laura Walsh, aged 48, said: "We have had a really hard year - Anthony's death was very quick but the girls have coped amazingly.

"They love dancing and it keeps them going, it keeps them strong.

"They got into the competition when their dad was still with us and he was so proud of them so it was a big thing for them to go and do well."

The girls dance with London-based academy Unity under mentor Tashan Muir - Kier danced with team Entity and Sienna performed as part of Clique.

Both teams knocked out several nations throughout the two-day competition.

Entity went on to claim first place and Clique came third.

The Walsh family were well-supported by the girl's fellow Unity dancers who told them before their final performances: "We're doing this for your dad.”

Mrs Walsh added: "There was a real family feel - it was lovely.

"Their dad was so proud of them, he was a loving, kind, funny man - he was just perfect."
