Hartley horserider Lin Rice has had Abby for 11 years and the veteran horse is now 20 years old.
Lin said: “She is my best friend and at times has been my saviour.”
Just under a year ago, Lin was told that she would never be able to ride Abby again because of a serious leg injury but thankfully the horse recovered.
Lin said: “We have got through some tough times but this was devastating news. With a lot of tender loving care and 10 months later we are now enjoying our rides together again.
“We have such a very strong bond which a lot of people cannot believe, and that includes my vet.”
She added: “I just want to say, NEVER take your animals for granted, love and care for them because you never know when you’ll lose them.”
