Europe’s biggest indoor football arena, Greenwich’s London Soccerdome is set to close at the end of the month to make way for a new housing development.

The venue will close it’s doors on October 31 to make room for further redevelopment of the Greenwich Peninsula.

Anthony White, managing director of The London Soccerdome, said: “It has been a real pleasure working at The London Soccerdome these past years and I would like to thank all the people that I have worked with and also those who have used the facility – and I would like to see you all back here at events before we finally close our doors for good."

The Soccerdome, located opposite the O2 Arena, was built in 2005 on land that was always embarked for further redevelopment following the 2012 London Olympics.

The site has been used as an academy teaching the footballers, managers and match officials of tomorrow, a venue for Premier League academy tournaments, as well as providing a purpose-built location for football leagues, charity events and corporate training.

Richard Berenson, chairman of the Football Nights Foundation, said: "We have been delighted to have the opportunity to operate The London Soccerdome, which has been a wonderful football venue for almost ten years, originally operating as The David Beckham Academy. It has provided a much needed football facility for the City of London and the local community of east London."
