England manager Roy Hodgson is to unveil a new state-of-the-art football pitch at a Biggin Hill school on Friday.

The 67-year-old former Gravesend and Northfleet player will be accompanied to Charles Darwin School by England Women’s team head coach, Mark Sampson.

The two England managers will talk to Charles Darwin students after the official opening of the pitch at the Jail Lane school.

Work on the third generation (3G) pitch has just been completed following the school’s successful bid for funding from the Premier League and the FA Facilities Fund.

The funding is part of a £102 million scheme to improve grassroots football nationwide.

Paul Dolan, Kent FA chief executive said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating the opening of a new state-of-the-art 3G pitch at Charles Darwin School on Friday.

“The Kent FA aims to establish safe and structured football opportunities for the benefit of all.

“And with the growth of housing in Kent, the contribution that grassroots football can make to building stronger communities, reducing crime, improving health, and tackling obesity is clear.”
