Bromley and Chislehurst MP Bob Neill has criticised the Labour party over the Rail, Maritime and Transport Union’s plans for fresh Tube strikes.

The senior Tory politician accused Labour of failing to stand up to the union after it announced more industrial action yesterday (September 22).

London Underground workers said they were planning more strikes in the long-running row over ticket office closures.

Mr Neill said: “This unjustified action from the militant leaders of Labour’s favourite union will bring fresh misery for millions of hardworking Londoners.

“It’s clear if Ed Miliband and Labour can’t stand up to their union bankrollers, they can’t stand up for millions of hardworking taxpayers trying to do the right thing and get on in life.”

The strike action was disclosed before the union announced acting general secretary Mick Cash had been elected as its new leader, following the death of Bob Crow in March.
