The daughter of a Greenwich man battling brain and lung cancer has told of her anger at Wetherspoon’s "lack of compassion" following her father’s serious fall.

Danielle White, 38, took her 67-year-old father Edwin Cronk to his local The Gate Clock in Creek Road in May to celebrate news of his successful treatment.

But as Mr Cronk, of Welland Street, entered the toilet cubicle during his daily visit to the venue, his shoe became caught on a protruding door excluder causing the retired construction worker to trip and fall heavily onto the toilet pan.

As a result of the injury, Mr Cronk suffered internal bleeding, bruising and damaged ribs but Mrs White claims he received no apology from the manager on duty.

Mrs White, of Britannia Close, Erith, said: “It affected me to the point where I couldn't sleep for months after and was getting flash backs of that day and I know my dad was too.

“The fact that my dad has lung cancer and fractured two ribs seriously compromised his health even more as he couldn't cough, which led to him contracting a chest infection which was really serious.”

Mrs White, who is taking legal action against the company on her father’s behalf, said she had to get help from her partner to pick Mr Cronk up from the floor after no help was offered by management who she claims then tried to remove the door excluder after the accident.

A spokesperson for Wetherspoon said: “Mr Cronk contacted Wetherspoon head office in May 2014 outlining the situation. Wetherspoon investigated this at the time and a few days later received a letter from Mr Cronk’s solicitor. This is ongoing and Wetherspoon’s solicitors are dealing with this.

“As a result Wetherspoon will not comment further on the case.”
