Youngsters at a Bexleyheath School got their hands dirty last week with the help of Blue Peter gardener, Chris Collins.

Upton School in Iris Avenue held a special gardening day on September 15 which saw the Blue Peter star talk to children in assembly about the benefits of gardening.

The gardener spent time with pupils planting edible plants and herbs in the schools new garden area.

Teaching assistant, Samantha Baker, who organised the event said: "It was really good.

"The aim was to get the children involved in outdoor learning, teaching them about growing our own food and showing them where food comes from.

"It's all part of the new curriculum's outdoor learning syllabus."
