Police investigating an incident which saw a 12-year-old boy escape death after a falling shopping trolley narrowly missed his head, want to speak to a couple seen arguing beforehand.
Lee Bennett of Mangold Way, Erith was walking by a bus stop at the junction between Wolvercote Road and Yarnton Way on August 23 around 10.50am with a friend when a shopping trolley was thrown from the walk-way which crosses over the road.
Lee was hit on the back by the trolley which knocked him to the floor - he tried to get up and collapsed.
He was taken to hospital with a suspected broken back but escaped with a badly bruised back and concussion.
Met Police officers are looking to speak to a man and woman spotting arguing on the bridge shortly before the trolley was thrown.
Police also wish to speak to a man who stopped his car to give Lee first aid and waited with him until the ambulance arrived.
PC Chris Molnar from the Thamesmead East police team said: "If Lee was half a second slower that trolley would have hit him on the head causing severe injuries, or death.
"I know there were people in the football court and on the pavement at the time of the incident.
"I need these potential witnesses to come forward and assist.
"At the end of the day it could have been them or their children instead of Lee.
