A Beckenham man has been jailed for two years after arranging to have his neighbour assaulted.

Jagiwan Jhally, 49, of Hayes Lane, had been in a long-running dispute with Christopher Hudson, 58, over the boundary between their properties - the subject of a number of civil cases.

On March 19, 2013 Mr Hudson was threatened by two men who claimed to be fencing contractors and Jhally's nephews.

They were joined by Jhally, who shouted at his neighbour.

On April 23 as Mr Hudson went to the rear of his property he passed Jhally and the two men who had previously confronted him.

The men followed Mr Hudson and then attacked him, punching him to the ground, hitting him with a piece of wood and kicking him while on the ground.

Mr Hudson required treatment at a local hospital and also at Kings College Hospital maxillofacial clinic for his injuries.

Police investigating the assault called at Jhally's address but he denied knowing anything about the incident, stating he had been in bed.

However, CCTV from the area showed the two assailants and Jhally standing in the front garden of Jhally's address before the two me followed Mr Hudson up the drive.

Jhally could be seen on the CCTV leaning through the fence watching what was going on before going into his house.

One of the attackers was seen taking a piece of wood from Jhally's garden and then returning it there after the assault on Mr Hudson.

Jhally was found guilty at the Old Bailey of conspiracy to commit actual bodily harm and was sentenced to two years in prison at Inner London Crown Court.

The mechanic was also ordered to pay £3,000 compensation to the victim.

Jhally denied the offence, but was found guilty by a jury in 22 minutes after a three-day trial.

Investigating officer Detective Constable James Coldham, from Bromley police, said: "Jhally denied the offence throughout and has shown absolutely no remorse at all for what happened to Mr Hudson.

"Indeed Jhally still refuses to name those who actually assaulted the victim."
