Despite being locked in an intense rivalry with nearby Sidcup, New Eltham is a fun place to live.

Vibe’s Jason Barr unearthed the five things you must do there...

Putter up anyone?

News Shopper:

Fancy yourself as a McIlroy, or are you just Tiger Woods post-2009? Then on the A20 - sure it’s near Sidcup - is World of Golf with a driving range, cafe and new adventure golf course.

Drinking Hole

News Shopper:

The Beehive right next to the station can’t be beaten for live entertainment and a good atmosphere at the weekend.

A Bite to Eat

Despite a lack of pubs, New Eltham does have an abundance of restaurants including Galshan next to Burger King. But the top of the lot is Nico’s on the corner by the station. A Greek restaurant that offers fun and karaoke singing; as well as a tribute act every weekend.

Do a bit with the Community

News Shopper:

Not everything is getting drunk and stumbling to Burger King on your way home here. The community centre in the Library opposite Nico’s offers yoga classes, pilates, even Table Tennis. So expect an appearance from Andy Murray if he’s not busy voting.

Get some ink

News Shopper:

There are plenty of hairdressers on the High Street, and on the A20, but you can’t leave yet without getting a tattoo. Jesters Tattoo Works is literally the last stop before you head out of town, so why not get some memorabilia of New Eltham before you go?

The nearly-men...

Yes, there IS more to see and do here! The Burger King, while somewhat the go-to place in New Eltham, used to be the last hotel/pub before Dover. Interesting fact.

New Eltham Joggers take part in weekly sessions in town and welcome people to join in.

Charlton’s football team also train just on the outskirts of town for any fans looking out an autograph.
