A Brockley man has been charged after national police raids targeting a Lewisham-based gang suspected of trafficking children into transporting Class A drugs.

Michael Karamera, 20, of Manwood Road, is charged with conspiracy to supply crack cocaine and heroin and is due to appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court in custody today.

Four other people have also been charged with conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.

Glodi Wabelwa, 20, from Tottenham, Tamsin Jones, 31, of no fixed address, Gavin Gimson, 42, from Portsmouth, and Michael Atkinson, 32, from Folkestone, all appeared at Bromley Magistrates' Court yesterday (Sep11) and have been remanded in custody to appear at Woolwich Crown Court on September 25.

An 18-year-old man from Lewisham arrested on suspicion of money-laundering has been bailed to return to a south London police station in mid-January.

A 20-year-old man has been bailed after being arrested for conspiracy to supply Class A drugs, inciting the supply of Class A drugs and human trafficking.

A 16-year-old boy has also been bailed after being arrested for conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.

On Wednesday police seized a large quantity of crack cocaine, £1,500 and a press believed to be used to package drugs from the raids attended by a total of 250 police officers across the UK.

The operation, code-named Operation Pibera, was part of the Met’s ongoing crackdown on gang crime.
