64 per cent of the British population is classified as overweight or obese, almost 40 per cent more than in 1980.

47 per cent of people who try to lose weight do so to feel more happy and confident.

60 per cent of people who have successfully lost weight say it made them feel happier in their own skin.

A fifth of people who have lost weight say it made them more confident in work.

21 per cent said it made them more confident when meeting new people.

A fifth of people trying to lose weight say a key motivating factor is important, such as a wedding or birthday to aim for.
