A head teacher accused of turning a Gravesend primary school into “hell”, has left her post after just two terms.

Jane Porter was drafted in to King’s Farm Primary School in January by Kent County Council to “raise academic standards and the quality of teaching”.

But she is no longer in charge of the school in Cedar Road, where 25 teachers and teaching staff have left because of “significant issues” over Mrs Porter’s management.

Around 20 parents protested against her at an organised demonstration outside the school in July.

Emma Friend, 28, who has four children at the school aged three to eight, said: "Sports days and trips have been cancelled. Since she took over the school has been hell."

NUT Union representative Ruth Serwotka, who was at the protest, added: “There are significant issues and there is a huge amount of insecurity with so many staff leaving the children have no stability."

Catherine Taylor has now taken over as head of King’s Farm.

According to KCC, Mrs Porter will now be free to concentrate on her other job as head of Whitehill Primary School in Sun Lane, Gravesend.

Sue Rogers, director of education, quality and standards at the council, said: “Currently Mrs Porter is focussing on her substantive school, Whitehill Primary.

“The county council has taken the opportunity to put in place a full time consultant head teacher who is employed by Kent County Council.”

There have also been complaints from parents that neither King’s Farm or Whitehill’s complete SATs results have been published.

Ms Rogers said: “The county council is still waiting for validated Key Stage Two data which is not unusual for this time of year.”
