More than 100 Thamesmead residents toasted their hopes and dreams for the future at a community workshop and canal clean-up.

Arts organisation The Brick Box kicked the day off with a Toast Temple ‘Yes!’ workshop held in Arnott Close which encouraged residents to think about ways they could make positive changes to their lives over pieces of toast.

Residents could choose just how they liked their slices as they made their pledges, which were all written down and hung in a gallery.

They included taking up cycling and saying yes to everything.

The event then featured a canal clean-up run by Gallions Housing Association, which made way for residents to launch wish lanterns on the water at sunset.

One person wished to meet David Beckham, another that it would snow and a third that people in general could have more hope.

The event on August 30 was run by Peabody.

Ellen Halstead, Peabody’s Thamesmead strategy team engagement and programme manager, said: "It was fantastic so many people turned-up to our event, which provided a great way to get people talking and involved in their area."
