Margate is enjoying a revival with its new Turner Gallery and trendy Old Town shops, bars and restaurants like the award winning Ambrette.

Chef patron of The Ambrette, Dev Biswal trained at the Dubai Sheraton, before moving to London where spells in top restaurants earned him Michelin and AA stars. He launched The Ambrette in 2010 and it has already received recognition from all the major food guides as well as Margate's first ever Michelin recommendation.

Dev has designed a well balanced, contemporary menu, using local seasonal ingredients, which deliciously marries Indian and English food. On a recent visit for lunch I enjoyed a starter of crab and beetroot cake which melted in the mouth. I followed this with Loin of Kentish pork, roast beetroot, Kentish purple potatoes, and a sauce of malt vinegar and garlic wine. This was accompanied with a good French sauvignon from the excellent wine list. There was a good selection of tempting desserts but I chose to watch my figure and opt for coffee. although Dev is keen to emphasise the healthiness of his thoughtfully constructed dishes.

Overall it was a lovely lunch.  The restaurant décor is contemporary, but warm and welcoming and the service friendly and efficient.

I could not fail to recommend The Ambrette and would say it is a definite must on any visit to Margate.  www.theambrette.co.uk
