Excited Lewisham residents flocked to Lee yesterday after reports of a film crew shooting a new BBC One drama.

Crew were armed with their cameras throughout the day at Upwood Road towards the Burntash Road junction filming The Interceptor, an eight-part series due to be broadcast this Autumn.

The series, written by Tony Saint, is about a new law enforcement team tasked with hunting down some of Britain’s most notorious criminals.

With many residents approaching the crew for more information, one resident, David Ford of Pitfold Close, was a little more sceptical about their arrival than others.

The 65-year-old said: “It brings Lee into the spotlight of film locations as a change from the more fashionable Greenwich for example.

“But it is however a bit of a two-edged sword as Lewisham Council have no doubt got a nice bit of money allowing the company to circumvent all the traffic and parking issues for which we get hammered and I also doubt that the money will go for the benefit of Lee Green Ward towards much needed repair of Burnt Ash Road.”

Mr Ford, who is retired, added: “It is a splendid irony that one lorry under the bridge is parked over a sunken utility trap which I cannot get the council to address despite the damage it does to vehicles where their left sided wheels go down it daily.”
