A Thamesmead recycling scheme has been shortlisted to receive a national grant.

Thamesmead Furniture Recycle is in the running for the Lloyds Bank Community Fund 2014 in Thamesmead.

By encouraging the public to vote, Thamesmead Furniture Recycle has the chance of winning a grant of up to £3,000 to enable them to continue doing good work in the community.

The community group help residents to furnish their homes with good quality pre-used furniture without incurring debt; collect good quality items of furniture and household items free of charge; reduce fly-tipping and save tons of furniture from going to landfill.

Ray Woodage Chair of Thamesmead Furniture Recycle said: "The Lloyds Bank Community Fund will make a huge difference to Thamesmead Furniture Recycle by enabling us to provide ‘Starter Packs’ to homeless people in Thamesmead. Please vote for Thamesmead Furniture Recycle to benefit from the Community Fund award."

Voting is open until October 10 and can be done via text, sending VOTE WMD to 6111, Twitter #COMMFUND WMD, online www.lloydsbank.com/communityfund or by visiting your local branch of Lloyds Bank.

The cause that receives the most votes in each community will receive an award of £3,000, with the other groups receiving £2,000, £1,000 or £500.
