Campaigners fighting plans for a huge new Ikea store at Greenwich are considering legal action - but need to raise the funds first.
The new store - already approved in principle by a Greenwich Counil planning board - is due to take the place of the Sainsbury's at Bugsbys Way, which will move to a new location.
That store had once been billed as a benchmark for sustainability and its architect, Paul Hinkin, who recently passed away, had objected to the demolition.
Lucy Early from the group No Ikea Greenwich said: "We are raising funds to see whether we have the legal basis for a challenge to Greenwich Council’s decision and realise the person-centric, environmental vision of the eco-store Paul Hinkin designed for the community and prevent its demolition and replacement with Ikea.
"It is with great sadness that we find that he will not be part of this endeavour."
