COMMUTERS are set to face delays on roads and public transport due to the snow.

The Highways Agency is asking drivers to slow down and drive carefully following a Met Office severe weather warning.

Although there are no delays on the M20, A2, or M2 at the moment there is congestion on the A20 from New Cross to Swanley with traffic moving at 10mph.

The Dartford Crossing is open but one tunnel will close at 8.30pm until 5am for scheduled engineering works.

A Highways Agency spokesman said: "We are expecting snow this evening and more heavier snow after midnight.

"So we are warning drivers that the roads will be covered with snow in the morning and to take extra care."

Many trains are delayed and some have been cancelled across north Kent and south London.

Heavy snowfalls predicted

The Met Office is warning people to expect up to 20cm of snowfall in the next 24 hours.

Snow showers currently covering the Thames Estuary are predicted to reach north Kent and south east London by 4.30pm.

Forecasters say steady snow showers will continue up until midnight when extremely heavy downfalls will begin.

The snowfall will continue until around noon tomorrow.

The Met Office says the conditions will make driving during rush hour today and tomorrow potentially hazardous.
