An eight-week-old kitten that was found with its head stuck through a hole in a garden table in Lewisham has made a new friend.

The kitten, named Parasol, was found two weeks ago and is said to be recovering well under the care of the Celia Hammond animal shelter and has made friends with a little black stray called Martina.

Martina was found covered in fly eggs with a severe flea infestation leaving her weak with anaemia.

The little kitten’s leg was so badly deformed by the infestation that staff have sadly advised they are unable to save it and when Martina is stronger, her leg will have to be amputated.

But the good news is the two have become best friends and with the ongoing and dedicated support of staff at the shelter, both kittens are doing well.

Manager of the Celia Hammond Trust Lesley Mills said the two kittens are both very brave.

She said: “It makes a huge difference to Martina having Parasol to cuddle up to and they have become great friends.”
