Lewisham Council calls on public to help solve budget crisis

First published in News by

Lewisham Council has challenged the public to help solve its budget woes using an online simulator under the title ‘The Big Budget Challenge’.

The borough needs to save £85 million over the next three years in the wake of cuts to local government from Westminster and has offered the task to members of the public willing to participate.

The council’s budget is being slashed by a third next year so participants will have to save one pound for every three in the current budget.

Mayor of Lewisham Sir Steve Bullock said: “The Council is facing some very tough choices over the coming months to balance our books. While the Government is cutting our budget by a third, Lewisham’s population is growing as quickly as anywhere in London, putting extra pressure on our services from adult and children’s social care, to school places, refuse collection and waste disposal.”

The truth of this matter is that the Council is trying to educate the public that local services cannot be sustained at the current level and to give them an idea about the huge cuts which are coming.

You think that the streets are dirty now, children are at risk, education is poor blah, blah, blah, see what happens when a third of the annual budget vanishes.

Thanks to Dave Cameron and his corrupt, pocket filling scum in Government we (the working and welfare classes) are going to find it harder and harder to exist as services we rely upon are reduced and eventually destroyed.

No, No, NO...........never invite the public to give opinion on how to spend our money, this just won't do. Have the council big wigs run out of brains to fathom it out for themselves now then? Give the borough citizens their say, implement, then when it goes tits up, they can't put the blame on us, but we will still receive our annual bumpf up salaries for having seen to be involving and working with the public of Lewisham.
One answer............ST
OP TAKING IN MORE OUTSIDERS. That might help just a wee bit.

Sharm's Sir Steve is doing exactly what Brommers' Dear Stephen does, which is to stand for election on the grounds that he & his chums are the best for the job, and then having been put in power tell their mug voters that they do not know what to do & ask if anybody has any bright ideas?

If you cannot stand the heat get out of the kitchen. That applies just as much to the Sharm Efnic Minority Labour Party Mafia as to Brommers rich toff families.
