A burst water main in Lewisham left angry residents without water since the weekend.

The incident occurred at around 6pm on Sunday and since then angry residents have taken to Twitter to find out when the problem is likely to be resolved.

One user @RiannaLovesAlot tweeted: “How can my whole area have NO WATER? This is rations at its lowest.”

Sharon Bennett of Hazelbank Road said her family have only been able to access a recorded message by Thames Water who she claims have also not updated their website with details of the incident.

She said: “We are frustrated as we understand the water main needs to be fixed, but no stand pipes can be accessed and there has been no word from Thames Water – we have just been left for more than 12 hours with no form of sanitation. If the water bill is not paid Thames Water will soon contact us, but in this situation there's no word.”

Thames Water have tweeted: “Customers in SE3, SE6 SE12 and SE13 who have low pressure/no water. This is due to a broken main in the area. We’re on site and working to fix it as soon as we can.”

Thames Water have said the water main was repaired with water being returned to customers' homes by 9am Monday.

The company have also said their website has been updated with information hourly but they occasionally have issues when people do not refresh their browsers.
