A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a Forest Hill 44-year-old was stabbed from behind, leaving him critically ill in hospital.

At around 9.20pm last night (August 20) the victim was walking home along Devonshire Road he was approached from behind and stabbed eight times.

He fell to the floor and his assailant fled from the scene.

The London Ambulance Service were called and the victim was taken to a south London hospital with eight stab wounds. The victim is in a critical but stable condition and his injuries are deemed to be life-changing.

Following enquiries, a 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody.

Sergeant Amanda Ritchie tweeted that the victim had known his attacker.

Police are appealing for witnesses and ask that anyone present in Devonshire Road at the time of the incident or anyone with any information should contact Lewisham CID on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
