Heroes
Before it was a restaurant, Zizzi in Beckenham High Street was the Three Tuns where a young David Bowie co-founded the Beckenham Arts Lab in 1969. The Italian restaurant remembers the connection with murals and tables decorated with a Thin White Duke theme by artist Tobias Hall.
Just William
Author of the Just William series of books, Richmal Crompton, moved to Bromley when she was 27 and stayed in the borough until her death, aged 78, in 1969. A Wetherspoons pub in Bromley town centre was named after her.
War of the Worlds
The Labour club in Bromley town centre is named after one of the town’s greatest sons, HG Wells.
Pukka tukka
Jamie’s Italian at Bluewater is perhaps not a natural for this list, but if you have seen the restaurant’s decor you would understand. Everything celebrates Jamie Oliver, with pictures, screens showing his shows non-stop and even one of his scooters near the entrance.
What the Dickens
Author Charles Dickens was a regular at the Leather Bottle in Cobham when he used to live down the road in Higham. These days the pub pays homage with his favourite seat and even one of his hairs.
Evolution
The Bromley branch of Zizzi has a mural dedicated to the borough's most famous son, Charles Darwin.
