A drunk, topless Abbey Wood robber who punched a driver through his car window and then sped off in the vehicle has been jailed for two years.

Unemployed Danny Whiting, 31, of Thistlebrook, was already drunk at 2pm on June 27 when he spied the car with its windows down trying to get through a width restriction in Felixstowe Road.

He punched the driver several times in the face, told him to get out the car, jumped in the driver's seat and drove off.

The car was eventually found in the car park of the Barge Pole pub in Thamesmead, while Whiting was slumped in a nearby alleyway.

Officers arrested the drunken thug and took him to hospital where he damaged a set of automatic doors.

And at Woolwich Crown Court on August 4 he was jailed for two years after admitting robbery, driving whilst disqualified, criminal damage and driving without insurance.

Officer in the case Detective Constable Hayley Macro from the Greenwich robbery squad said: "Whiting is a violent man who attacked an innocent member of the public.

"I hope the victim can move on from this frightening incident now that Whiting has been put behind bars."

This is a public assecable web site about local news, people are allowed to talk about news, films music etc weather you like it or not. This is the comment section, whereby the public can leave a comment. We also have freedom of speech in this country which allows you and me to have our say. If you don't like any of this then turn the internet off or move out of the UK.

People don't like drunk violent thievies. Would you like to be punched in the face and have your car stolen? Do you feel sorry for the victim? So he's from your family I don't really care, I would be inbarassed if he was from mine. I would found it shameful that a member of my family could be so low.

You are missing the point of this comments section! It invites people to read an article and then comment on it as they see fit. If he hadn't committed a crime, then details of his life and misdemeanours wouldn't be published here, and people wouldn't have the opportunity to comment on them. It comes with the territory.

Also, do you think that people are really going to care if it offends his family? What about the poor victim of the crime. He didn't give two hoots about them or the impact it could have on their life and family.

No there is no 'need' to comment. However, lots of people do comment on stories so clearly there's the demand for the ability to do so. You could use the same argument about talking about anything. When I arrived at work this morning I discussed the football at the weekend. Both myself and the person I was speaking to knew the results and had watched the games, but it's normal behaviour to discuss such things.

WEATHER you like it or not? dear dear.
You keep banging on about free speech and people being allowed to have their say, yet when they do commit to this section and it does not coincide with your thoughts or beliefs, the likes of you have the comments removed. I would say your beliefs that we are free to comment what we like are somewhat eroded now as we are not always allowed to post our thoughts so button up on the free speech lark will you. Maybe you should be the one to take your own advice and turn the internet off or move out of the UK if what is posted on here offends you so much.

It does make me laugh when persons not blessed with much intelligence try and hide behind "freedom of speech" and attempt to justify their hatred with it.

Yes we are all entitled under human rights laws to invoke a freedom of expression but this has its boundaries. One being the Public Order Act 1986 which has a provision that excludes "The use of threatening, abusive or insulting language or the display of written material that is abusive or insulting".

So SLB, the next time you are a little confused as to why your nasty comments towards the family of a dead girl are removed from this site have a little look at the legal framework that surrounds your "freedom of speech" attempt at defence and realise that it does not provide carte blanche for hate crime and bigoted comments.

Mr Etips says...

Thistlebrook, and all of its residents, are a scourge on the local community and need to be dealt with properly.

Hopefully the site is renovated and its residents are split up all over the country. It's about time the 'traveller'/gypsy community stopped being an anti-social nuisance, integrated properly with the rest of the country and actually contributed during a time when society needs it
