A drunk, topless Abbey Wood robber who punched a driver through his car window and then sped off in the vehicle has been jailed for two years.

Unemployed Danny Whiting, 31, of Thistlebrook, was already drunk at 2pm on June 27 when he spied the car with its windows down trying to get through a width restriction in Felixstowe Road.

He punched the driver several times in the face, told him to get out the car, jumped in the driver's seat and drove off.

The car was eventually found in the car park of the Barge Pole pub in Thamesmead, while Whiting was slumped in a nearby alleyway.

Officers arrested the drunken thug and took him to hospital where he damaged a set of automatic doors.

And at Woolwich Crown Court on August 4 he was jailed for two years after admitting robbery, driving whilst disqualified, criminal damage and driving without insurance.

Officer in the case Detective Constable Hayley Macro from the Greenwich robbery squad said: "Whiting is a violent man who attacked an innocent member of the public.

"I hope the victim can move on from this frightening incident now that Whiting has been put behind bars."
