Residents of a street situated on a notorious traffic black spot are appealing to Lewisham Council for speed-restricting measures after 12 serious accidents have already been reported this year.

Occupants of Stondon Park Road, Honor Oak, have witnessed house fronts being ripped off, cars driving into walls and have even had their own cars written off.

Just last month the worst accident the street has seen so far was witnessed when a car had a head-on collision with another vehicle and mounted the curb smashing through someone’s property.

Resident and managing director Steve Crawley said it’s a miracle nobody has been killed.

The 41-year-old said: “All the accidents have happened in the middle of the day but at night it turns into a bit of a wild west with cars speeding up and down the street.

“It’s such a shame because it’s a good community with a lot of families who should not have to put up with this but someone will die before the council do anything about it.”

Mr Crawley has lived on the once-peaceful street for six years and even witnessed his own car being written off in an early-morning accident.
